Say Goodbye to Pore Impurities with the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask

By Amy Dang - July 6, 2020

I recently reviewed the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Cleansing Foam and was left fairly unimpressed. It wasn’t horrible by any means, but it just wasn’t amazing. Not one to give up so quickly, I decided to give this Volcanic Cluster line another chance by testing out a different product. This time, we’re diving into face masks with the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask. And you know what? I actually quite like this one. I just started to slowly incorporate masks into my routine at least twice a week, so this clay mask came at the perfect time.

The Mask

Similar to the cleansing foam of the same line, the Innisfree clay mask is meant to draw out excess sebum and remove any impurities from your pores. Apparently, it can rid your skin of impurities even better than certain toners and cleansers. Thanks to the volcanic clusters, the skin also benefits from gentle exfoliation. The result? A brighter, clearer skin with a shine-free complexion and visibly smaller pores.

The Smell

As expected of a clay mask, the smell of this product was fairly “earthy”, reminiscent of “wet dirt” if you will. It definitely had a very raw, natural scent comparable to other clay masks I’ve used in the past. Don’t get me wrong though, it smells just fine and is actually pretty subtle overall. As soon as you apply the clay and let it dry, you won’t really smell it again until you wash it off afterwards.

The Feeling

I typically gravitate towards more “wet” masks (aka sheet masks), so this Innisfree clay mask was actually a nice change. The application process is super easy and smooth to the touch. All you have to do is apply a nice viscous layer onto freshly cleansed skin, and leave it on for a good 15 to 20 minutes. Texture-wise, the mask is obviously a bit thicker than what I am used to, but it still glides nicely on my skin. I actually really enjoy applying it on, where the feeling is similar to painting on a blank canvas. The mask dries very quickly too, which is a nice bonus, because I don’t have to worry about accidentally smearing it off.

Unlike some clay masks, I could actually still move my face muscles — aka laugh and smile. In other words, I didn’t have to worry about ruining or wrinkling the mask. Once it dries, it feels super lightweight despite the amount used and I barely notice it’s there! Upon washing off, my skin felt so refreshed and clean. I could actually feel the excess oils washed away, but not in an overly squeaky clean kind of way. While it was a little harder to tell if my pores had reduced in size, my skin certainly felt clearer. And smoother! Definitely an upgrade from the cleansing foam!

The Ingredients

Here’s a little geology lesson for you. When volcanoes erupt, the hot lava fragments form clusters as they solidify. These volcanic clusters are naturally porous and packed with rich minerals. Formulated with 3,000 mg Jeju Volcanic Cluster, which are micro-particles smaller than pores, the Innisfree clay mask thus has the powerful capability of naturally absorbing excess oil and dirt. Best of all, this product contains no animal products, parabens, mineral oil, imidazolidinyl urea, fragrance, or synthetic colors.

WATER, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891),SILICA, GLYCERIN, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, TREHALOSE, VOLCANICASH, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, STEARIC ACID, GLYCERYL STEARATE,BENTONITE, ZINC OXIDE (CI 77947), POLYSORBATE 60, HYDROGENATEDVEGETABLE OIL, KAOLIN, POLYVINYL ALCOHOL, PVP, DEXTRIN, PHENOXYETHANOL,THEOBROMA CACAO (COCOA) EXTRACT, PEG-100 STEARATE,SORBITAN STEARATE, CELLULOSE GUM, XANTHAN GUM, LACTICACID, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TETRASODIUM PYROPHOSPHATE, DISODIUMEDTA, IRON OXIDES (CI 77491), BAMBUSA VULGARIS EXTRACT, CRYPTOMERIAJAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT, CAMELLIA JAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT,CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT,OPUNTIA COCCINELLIFERA FRUIT EXTRACT, ORCHID EXTRACT

The Takeaway

Innisfree may have disappointed me with its cleansing foam, but it sure redeemed itself with this clay mask. I am happy to report that the Innisfree clay mask is a product worth trying out. It’s lightweight, won’t strip away moisture, and ultimately, does what it promises. Give your skin a little refresh with this clay mask, it surely won’t disappoint!
